Colour Laser Printer 3110cn – Improved Technology
By Jowita Blak
For years, laser printers were never seen outside an office. But technology has improved and prices have fallen. The result is Dell’s laser range of which the 3110cn is an example of a fast, high quality colour printer.
Speed
But what would you place on a list of printer preferences? The first item would probably be speed. In this respect, the 3110cn can hold its own: it prints documents and images at rates up to 30 A4 ppm (pages per minute) in black and white and 17ppm in colour.
Memory
This speed is backed by a 400 MHz processor and 128MB of memory. This means that the machine can store a lot of print jobs – or some sizeable documents.
Robust
The 3110cn is not just fast and convenient, however, it’s also robust. It comfortably prints up to 60,000 pages per month – a capacity that you may or may not need!
Colour Track
Another feature that could appear on your preference list is the ability to control use of the printer. The 3110cn boasts Dell’s Colour Track colour control tool. This allows you to create as many as 50 user accounts and monitor use of the printer by each. You can also set limits on the amount of printing. This may prove useful in an office environment or in a home where the printer is networked to different family members.
Cartridge capacity
Unlike an inkjet, the 3110cn uses toner cartridges in black (for monochrome printing) and cyan, magenta and yellow (for colour). To match the intended use of the printer, these cartridges come in two types: standard capacity and high. From the standard, you can expect to print 5000 pages in black and white and 4000 in colour; from a high capacity toner cartridge you’ll print around 8000 pages for both.
Whatever type you use, the Dell Toner Management System keeps you informed – by a pop-up message or email – when the toner level starts to run low.
Upgrades
Dell has a number of upgrades for the 3110cn that give the printer the flexibility to suit the changing demands of work. A duplex print unit provides automatic double-sided printing; an optional paper drawer increases paper input capacity to 950 sheets; and a wireless adapter allows you the freedom to install the printer away from the computer – or link it to other computers in your network. Finally, to improve speed and efficiency, there is a further option to increase the memory from 128MB to 1152MB.
If you need a heavy-duty, versatile printer, these standard and optional features may be exactly the preferences that you want. They certainly make Dell’s 3110cn stand out in the crowded printer marketplace.
