Owners of Microsoft Zune weren’t very Happy on New Year. Thousands of Zune Music Players froze on New Year’s Eve around the world as to what Microsoft described as a Bug in the device’s internal clock.
The Bug only affected the 30 GB version of the music player.
The 80 GB and 120 GB versions were not affected.
Microsoft came to know when Zune forums and discussion boards lit up overnight with complaints from Zune owners who complained that their players had stopped working. On this Microsoft initially put out a statement saying the owners of the 30 GB Zune may experience “issues” when starting up the device.
The company also asked for patience and apologized for the inconvenience.
Later, the problem was explained on – http://www.zune.net/
and said that it would essentially resolve itself. They said that there was a bug in the internal clock driver causing the 30GB Zune players to improperly handle the last day of a leap year.
Microsoft also said that the problem should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009 . They expected the internal clock on the Zune 30 GB versions to automatically reset by the 2nd of January.
Lastly Microsoft said ” By tomorrow, you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully. Then simply ensure that your device is recharged, and turn it back on,” in such a way, Microsoft advised its users.
